These materials are designed for grown-ups teaching ages 7 to 15. Use the age bands as starting points and adjust for reading confidence.

Ages 7 to 9: notice and tell
Read aloud. Ask your learner to name a person, retell an event or draw an idea. Let spoken answers count.
Ages 10 to 12: explain and compare
Read with support nearby. Ask for a reason and one detail from the text, then write a short explanation.
Ages 13 to 15: support a claim
Compare sources, separate facts from inferences, and explain what the evidence cannot tell us.

Make room for history
all year.

Use these Black history worksheets during Black History Month, a homeschool history unit, or a weekend at the kitchen table. One thoughtful conversation is a useful start.
